Why Election Integrity is So Important

As spiritual progressives we are all working for peace, stewardship of our planet, the preservation of our democracy and an end to poverty in our nation and in our world.

If we vote for a candidate for public office who supports peace, generosity, environmental stewardship and election integrity, then in our democracy we expect that our vote is counted, and counted accurately. We have hope that our goals for our country and our planet can be achieved. When we no longer have confidence in the accuracy of our nation's election results, then we can no longer hope to achieve our goals.

With questionable election results in our country since 2000, we are coming to the realization that unless we demand change, starting today, our voices as spiritual progressives may be silenced. With the passage of HAVA (Help America Vote Act) of 2002, came electronic voting and electronic vote counting, and the continuation of the effort to silence the progressive voice in America. That effort is also manifested by the extensive use of caging lists, dirty tricks, and not enough voting booths or ballots in minority and presumed democratic neighborhoods.

In the little time that we have left before the 2008 elections, progressives must be alert, informed,
and ready to take action to demand that our progressive votes receive a fair counting on election day.
Our actions will determine what direction our future takes as individuals, as a nation, and as a part of humanity
in the twenty-first century.
